Temptation of Eros

Temptation of Eros

by Philippa Jacobs

Eros the Greek God of love, also known as Cupid, shot love arrows into peoples hearts so that they fell in love. But he gave into temptation when he saw the beauty of the mortal Psyche. Gods and mortals were not allowed to cohabitate. The story of Eros and Psyche illustrates that the God could be tempted and therefore corrupted. this painting is very loose portrayal of the myth but here Eros is being tempted to smoke by a wily moral. gods are supposed to resist temptation that mortals are prone to.
